IT IS WORSE THEN YOU THOUGHT

In our experience, if you want  men to engage in the conversation regarding reducing demand by discouraging the viewing of porn, you need to approach them as taking the lead in the fight against human trafficking, taking on the fight in the way that only men can do.  If a  man gets an email that his men's group is going to have a presentation on porn, he thinks to himself....they are going to tell me porn is bad and  I shouldn't view it.   That doesn't sound enrolling.  However "End Demand: Men as Leaders in the Fight Against Human Trafficking" sound interesting.  That is why we  are approaching this subject this way.  Here is our  Power point.   Here is the script for it.   Here is the handout. What will really make a difference with adults is to have  programs like "Celebrate Recovery" and "The Conquer Series" in our faith communities so sex addicts and their partners can get help.

What is especially disturbing is the fact that Child Porn is the fastest growing aspect of the porn industry creating legions of new pedophiles each year and a demand for younger and younger victims of human trafficking.  We can end it by  creating a grass roots demand  in every country in the world to pass the same business regulation that was passed in England, which requires all internet providers to block child porn so it can not come into the country.   So how do you create a grass roots demand?  The answer is that you ask the media to raise awareness of the fact that blocking child porn is possible and the consequences to our children of  such easy access to child porn, despite the fact that it is illegal.  What many do not realize is that at porn sites are "pop-ups" with titles such as "click here for a more exciting site."  Those "pop-ups" are taking porn users, including kids to child porn sites.   Here is a letter that you can send to your congressperson or senator to ask them to follow the example of England and block child porn at the providers site.

Parents have always been concerned that their children might become a victim of a child predator.   As a result of kids being exposed to porn, the kids themselves have become the predators and future clients for Human Traffickers.   "London, March 4, 2013, (Life Site News.com) Pornography and depictions of sexuality have turned more than 4,500 British children-some of them as young as five - into sexual offenders, according to a UK-based child welfare charity."  This stat is over a 3 year period and most likely refers to children molesting other people's kids.   However, social workers will tell you that most victims are siblings.   The U.S has six  times the population of the United Kingdom and we need to be concerned with how violent porn has become. Linking the sex drive to violence is a lethal combination. "(Dangerous Access, 11/98) 11 year old Josh had been looking at graphic violent porn on the internet for 20 minutes immediately before stabbing 8 year old Maddie Clifton to death."

With regard to talking to children, there are many videos we could have chosen.  We chose the two videos at the bottom because they are age appropriate for tweens and teens.  The first one  entitled #Refuse to Click" destroys the fantasy that the actresses and oftentimes the actors are not enjoying what they are doing.    Similar to "John Schools" what has proven to be an effective deterrent to viewing porn is to know that the actors and actresses are in fact acting.   It is the notion that children enjoy sex with adults or that  a woman enjoys violence and being raped that has predators feel justified in what they are doing.   They don't enjoy it.  They are often tortured to act like they do. The second video entitled "We need to talk . ...about porn"  lets young people know that porn is not another form of entertainment, it is actually a drug.  The video is not graphic.  It is a cartoon and very well done.   Like any drug the consequences to the user are tragic.  Both these videos can be found at "Fight the New Drug." Given that hard core teen porn users  are looking at porn is late at night when their parents are asleep, parents need to take away all devices, including the power cord to their children's gaming systems before they go to sleep at night.

So what actions can we take in the effort to reduce demand and protect our children.  In addition to  using the power point to raise awareness, talking to our children and asking our representatives to blockichild porn, we need to also pass the "opt in" campaign which requires internet providers to block all porn unless the person paying for the service calls their internet provider to "opt in" to get legal porn in their household or on their cell phones.  This would protect our teens from becoming porn addicts. What many parents don't realize is that while you may be blocking porn with a program on your computer, your kids could be in the next room on their cell phones, ipads, etc. watching porn.  The "opt in" campaign means that porn is blocked by the internet provider, so no one on your wi-fi can access it.  For now, we need to employ apps to block all our children's devices so they can not access porn.  If we don't get out there and FIGHT, porn producers will continue to encourage people to victimize women and children and influence  our children  to become future clients of Human Traffickers. Are you ready to take action?!
